Pleased to announce my story collection, BEHOLD THE VOID, will be translated into Italian and published in 2021 by Independent Legions Press and publisher Alessandro Manzetti.
I think, at the end of the day, what I’ve learned in five years is that it’s a process. It’s not one thing, it’s a series of things. It’s not one year or three years of failures, it’s a lifetime of failures. It’s a glorious lifetime of trying (and trying and trying and trying). There’s joy in that. There’s victory in that. In the trying. It’s astonishing and liberating and it’s success, believe it or not.
It’s Going Big.
Every writer wants to write, sure. But frankly, what every writer really wants is to be published. To be read. And after publishing over a dozen stories between 2015 and 2017, it was really difficult to pull up stakes and wander into the dark woods alone, essentially taking 2018 off from the short form, knowing it would mean no new stories for at least a year, and maybe more. And it’s scary, and dark, and frankly damn lonely in those woods. Bring a light.
What had seemed awesome was suddenly not awesome. What seemed like a cool, gracious, supportive online community became contentious, battering, hateful.
I wanted to step away. I wanted to, maybe, forget the whole thing and go back to screenwriting. Better the sharks you know, I figured.
Instead, I wrote.
It’s been incredibly satisfying to have my stories from my debut collection, BEHOLD THE VOID, branching out into new languages and new territories. With the Czech release of HLED, PRAZDNOTA earlier this year, and now I can officially announce CONTEMPLAD EL VACIO, from Dilatando Mentes Editorial (Spain)…
